... and it wasn't bad at all. I've read the horror stories about how messy and time consuming it is, but I expected worse. First some background on my hair:
I have VERY thick, coarse, dark brown, little-below-the-shoulder length Asian hair. I haven't colored or highlighted my hair in years, however all the ends of my hair still do have the highlights from my last salon visit (about the bottom 2 inches of my hair is still streaked).
Anyway, I am a huge Lush fan so thought I would give this a try because I wanted to get rid of my colored ends without causing any damage to my hair (all natural ingredients), or without changing my natural color. So I went ahead and bought LUSH's Caca Rouge Mama Hair Henna.I know it has hints of red in it, but I didn't think it would affect my hair all the badly.
I followed the directions to a T (make sure you follow it carefully, can make a huge different!) and left the henna in my hair (my whole head of hair) for 4 hours. Yes it's time consuming, but if you plan ahead for a day that you can use to yourself, then that will be perfect. The smell is weird (they don't call if Caca for nothing) but after about 30 minutes, I was used to it. I also covered my hair with plastic wrap like recommended for a redder tinge. The only trouble I had was having little henna pieces drop off my hair as it dried whenever I moved a little. So I just stayed in my living room which is all floor, no carpet, and just swept up after.
When I was done, I was very surprised to see that the Caca Rouge Mama Hair Henna actually did cover up my highlighted ends! There wasn't much of a color change anywhere else, which was perfect. I was also left with a gorgeous red tinge to my super dark colored hair.It was amazing and only showed when the light or sun hit my hair.It was so sexy... I couldn't be happier! For my whole head of hair, I ended up using half the bar, so I am only going to do the ends of my hair the next time. Also, the shine in my hair was amazing after I used this. Lush customer service is very helpful and nice, so don't be afraid to call and ask.
Another thing I didn't like was the smell of the henna stayed for a couple of days after I had shampooed it out, however the smell did decrease everyday. Some people like the smell, other hate it, and I was in the 'hate it' group, so that bothered me a little.
Overall a good product and would buy again to touch up my ends.
**For light colored hair, I would recommend a strand test because if I could see the red color on my dark hair, I imagine it would show up quite well on lighter colored hair.LUSH's website has a great forum with before and after pictures.Check it out!
