I've been using this stuff on both my hair and beard for years and it's a mixed bag.Wish there was something better on the market, but if you need one product for both hair and beard, this is the best choice I've found.They used to sell it in Walgreen's but during the first half of 2010, Walgreen's pulled it from their shelves.That's why I had to turn to Amazon.com to purchase.Pros:
- use on hair and beard in one application; no need for 2 products
- very economical since you get a good 3 or 4 applications per box if you have short hair.Obviously longer hair will use up more product.
- can be brushed in; no need to get hands all messy.If you do prefer to shampoo in, it comes with a couple of throwaway plastic gloves.They are durable enough to save and use for multiple applications.
- does a good job of coloring your hair and beard, unless it has turned a very light gray or white and you're trying to color it black.In that case observers may see some gray peeking thru when up close.
Cons:
- dish and brush not supplied; you have to supply your own
- You'd better have a really steady hand and not get coloring on your face or neck where you don't want it.It will color your skin and take up to 5 days to wear off.I always try and color at least 3 days before any important meetings or appearances, since it will also color the skin behind your beard.
- After opening you have to use the entire contents within a month to 6 weeks.After that it will start to get really loose, runny and drippy and Clairol won't stand behind the product.So if you only need to color infrequently, the only application that you know will have a firm, creamy, non-runny texture is the first one.2 or 3 months down the line it will be runny, drippy and will mess up your bathroom big time.
- You'd better protect your counters and nice surfaces.There is always some splattering, even on the mirror.I use newspaper and an old rag to wipe down the mirror after applying.
- If you have any open sores on your head behind the hair you are coloring, they will sting like hell when this goup touches them.I always try and wait until any open sores scab over before applying.
Actually, some of these problems will likely be true of any hair coloring, but I've never tried any of the others.Good luck!
