My hair started out light brown and I decided to try an "at-home" blonde. Now I know perfectly well what needs to be done to brown hair to make it blonde and that it's best to have it professionally done. However, I just wanted to play around at home.
That being said, I did my research. I looked at consumer reviews for the variouis Colorist blonde shades and could find NOTHING for the dark blonde.
I used the Revlon website to find the correct shades to use on my hair.I also read that, if undecided between two shades to use the lighter since it's easier to go darker if the results are not as expected.I was leaning toward this shade (dark blonde) but since I was unable to find any internet reviews on the color, I bought #80-medium blonde as well.
The color result charts on the back of both boxes confused me. The dark blonde box showed lighter results than the medium blonde box.Still, I decided to use the shade that was suppsoed to be the lighter of the two shades, which was the medium blonde.
I kept the medium blonde haircolor on for 30 minutes. It didn't look like my hair had changed much so I used a comb and made sure each strand was fully covered. Then I waited another 10 minutes.
The odor of the hair coloring was similar to all of the Revlon Colorist shades I've used. Very much a chemical smell.
This shade did lighten my hair. However, I ended up a medium red shade instead of blonde. Not a bad shade, just not what I had expected.
On the up side. My hair was in great condition. It didn't get fried or ruined during the color application. The shine was incredible as well. All the components of Revlon Colorist that I've came to expect were present...even thought I got a shade I didn't expect.
My story goes on.I waited 48 hours and used the dark blonde shade on my hair.Again I left it on for 30 minutes, then combed the product to the ends of my hair.Dark blonde actually darkened my hair to almost the light brown color I started off with...execpt I had a lot more red highlights in it.Again, no damage to the hair and it's in fantastic condition considering I dyed it twice in one weekend.
A week later and the color is fading a bit, as colors usually do.It does look more strawberry blonde now.Still a lot of red. Not offensive or brassy though. I like it and it was fun to play. I just think these colors were meant for 'already blonde' hair and it's somewhate disappointing that this is not indicated on their website.
Overall a great experience and my hair is lighter and very shiny.I'm giving three stars only because the color result was nothing near the box and only occurred once my haircolor started fading out.
